Let’s celebrate our community by demonstrating our talents and taking to the sidewalks with chalk in hand. Artists of all ages and spectators will gather behind the Middle School to create works of art with pastels and sidewalk chalk. We’ll have music and Food trucks to keep you fed and entertained! Bring your lawn chairs and set up camp if you want.
When: Saturday, June 12, 2021 / 10:00AM – 3:00PM
Where: Behind the Northern Middle School. Park in the High School parking lot.
Artwork times: Artists can begin as early as 8:00 AM. Judging will take place from 2:00-2:30 PM and awards will be announced at that time
Each Artist or Team receives:
5-8 yr olds : A set of sidewalk chalk
9 yr olds and up: A set of soft pastels or sidewalk chalk (artist’s preference)
Competition: Optional Theme: “Life in Dillsburg” – Participate for the fun of it or bring out your competitive side. Artwork will be judged on: Creativity, Best use of Color, Best use of Theme (optional). We will also award a “Peoples Choice” prize – so you get to the be the judge! Prizes will include gift bags, gift Cards and more!
Concept Approval: Your design must be approved by the Dillsburg Arts Council – just send us a sketch or description as part of your application. Send to arts@dillsburgarts.org
Categories for entries:
Youth 1: Ages 5-8 (no cost for entry)
Youth 2: Ages 9-13 (cost $10 for entry)
Youth 3: Ages 14-18 (cost $10 for entry)
Adults: (cost $10 for entry)
Teams: (cost $10 for entry – Can be families or mixed ages, up to 4 people per team)
Deadline reminder: Artist Applications must be received by May 31 so we have time to buy all the chalk!
Medium: Only sidewalk chalk, soft pastels, or chalk pastels may be used for your artwork – No oil pastels or other medium. You may bring your own or use those provided by the Arts Council.
Surface: We will be using the large sidewalk area behind the Northern Middle School. All spaces will be 5’ x5’. Suggestion for artists: use a “grid” to get your drawing accurate. (Draw it on your reference and on your sidewalk space)
Younger Children’s area and Community Space: We’ll also provide a space for you to contribute to a community drawing and a space for younger participants to create! You don’t have to register for this.
